Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? We have answers!

Your questions, answered

The safety of our guests and team is our top priority and we have enhanced our operations to ensure the best and safest rental experience for everyone. Here’s what you can expect from your rental experience as a part of our COVID-19 response.

  • Face coverings required for all guests and team members while inside our rental locations
  • Updated and increased cleaning protocols for rental equipment and our shops
  • Decreased number of guests allowed in a rental shop at one time to allow for physical distancing
  • Dedicated rental equipment pick up and return areas

We appreciate your continued patience and support during this time.

For your safety and peace of mind, we will be managing how many people are on Vail Resorts’ owned and operated mountains this season and implementing a reservation system. Reservations will be required to access our mountains. If our rental guests wish to ski or ride during their rental reservation window, they must have a pass reservation or lift ticket in order to access the mountain. For additional details, please click here.
You can cancel up to 24 hours before your reservation for a full refund. Call us to make a change at 970-754-0044 for U.S. reservations or 800-766-0449 for Canadian reservations. If you can, have your confirmation number handy.
We'll refund you for the remaining whole days that you won't use your equipment. Gear returned after 9 AM will be charged for that day.
No, but you can buy skis and snowboards at our affiliated retail locations. Select retail locations also carry gently-used demos or offer a try-before-you-buy program. Find a shop here.
Yes, swap out your skis any time at any location.
Yes, and we welcome it. Pick up your equipment any time after 3 PM and you won’t be charged for that day.
Of course. On the equipment selection page (Step 3) un-check the box by boots when you pick your package. If you forget to pack your boots, they’re available for walk-in rentals on a first-come, first serve basis.
We do, up to size 16 for skis and 15 for snowboards. They’re in demand, so reserve your package in advance to make sure they’re available when you need them.
You can. Stop into any SkiRentals.com location to swap them out. There may be a price adjustment.
We do. You can add helmets to your rental package or pick one up on a first-come, first-serve basis at the shop. We don’t take reservations for helmets by themselves. Although helmets aren’t required, we strongly recommend them for anyone hitting the slopes.
Absolutely. Reserve the number of days you plan on skiing online and then talk to a team member when you pick up your equipment to avoid being charged for the extra day you will have your equipment.
Our expert team members will have a suggested ski waiting for you on arrival based on your skier type, local conditions and your personal details. They’re happy to provide additional options if needed when you arrive.
No, not at this time. Many SkiRentals.com locations have accessories (gloves, goggles, helmets and more) for purchase. Find a store to shop for more gear here.
You can rent boots by themselves on a first-come, first-serve basis. We don’t take online reservations. They range from USD $15 to $25 per day. If you bring your own skis and want to rent boots with us, your bindings must meet manufacturer safety requirements. To make sure, we’ll run a functionality test. It costs about $30.
At some locations. When booking your reservation, look for stores in Step 2 that have the “Overnight Ski Storage” option listed. The shop will secure your skis for you so you don’t have to haul them back to your hotel. At this time, we do not store snowboards overnight.
We require a parent or legal guardian to sign a release of liability on behalf of an unaccompanied person younger than 18 years old. Download, complete and print this waiver and send it with your child. They will not be able to participate if the release is not signed. No exceptions.
Kids rentals are great for ages 12 years and under.
The following products are eligible for the 20% Pass Holder discount with Epic Mountain Rewards: Demo skis, Performance skis, Sport skis, Kids skis, Demo Snowboard, Sport Snowboard, and Kids Snowboard, Helmets, and Boots. RELEASE PREFERENCE
Choosing Your Release Preference is Your Responsibility

The factors that determine the release setting on your ski bindings include your height, weight, age, boot sole length, and your personal release preference. You are responsible for determining your own release preference based upon the chart below and for informing the ski shop technician of your preference. Your ski shop technician cannot make this determination for you. Be sure to provide accurate information regarding your height, weight, age and personal release preference. Errors may increase your risk of injury.

Type I: Entry-level skiers who are uncertain of their preference.
Entry-level skiers and skiers who designate themselves as Type I receive lower than average ski binding release settings. This corresponds to easier ski binding release in a fall.

Type II: Most skiers are satisfied with a Type II setting.
Skiers who designate themselves as Type II receive average ski binding release settings appropriate for most recreational skiing.

Type III: Skiers who designate themselves as Type III receive higher than average release settings.
This corresponds to decreased risk of inadvertent binding release and increased risk of non-release. This classification is not recommended for skiers 47 lbs. (21 kg) and under.

If from experience, you have been dissatisfied with the release settings that result from your release preference, mention this to your binding ski shop technician.
